Rex is a neurotic dinosaur toy featured in the Toy Story franchise. Rex is a roughly 24" long and 14" high non-scientific representation of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Molded from a mix of hard and soft plastics, he features articulated legs, arms, neck and jaws. His tail is also removable by twisting, presumably to save space in his packaging. For the most part, Rex is modeled almost identically to the Tyrannosaurus Rex figure from the Dinoriders line. The major difference is Rex's more friendly, toyish, and scientifically inaccurate face and head.

He is molded in a dark green plastic with lime green sprayed over the top of his form, and a cream sprayed over his chest and underside. The paint is sprayed somewhat poorly and haphazardly.

He is manufactured by a corporate subsidiary of Mattel. He appears to come from the same toyline as Trixie, seeing as their physical forms are very similar in appearance.

Toy Story (1995)[]

Released for the original Toy Story film, Rex features four quotes directly from the film, activated by the push of a button. He is reasonably accurate to the film, though in an odd, very matte shade of dark green. He is also quite noticeably smaller than he should be.

Toy Story 3 (2010)[]

Toy Story Collection: "Rex the Roarin' Dinosaur"[]

Possibly the most film-accurate version of Rex to have been released, this release both features a more film-reminiscent color palette (albeit with a less glossy finish) and, at around 13.5-14 inches in height, scales more accurately with the other Toy Story characters contemporaneously released by Thinkway, suggesting this Rex to be the sole officially-released version of the character to be fully film-accurate in size. Relative to the more basic functions implemented on the 1995 release, this Rex features a wider roster of phrases, an animatronic head and arms and an elaborate sensory system capable of eliciting differing tones of phrase depending on the volume at which the user or owner is speaking to him. As the TSC Rex was not re-released by Thinkway beyond 2010 (unlike its contemporaries, such as the TSC Woody and Buzz), it has become one of the most valuable releases of the character on the second-hand market, with fully-functioning boxed examples attaining prices of over 500 USD.

Thinkway "Basic" Rex[]

Released by Thinkway contemporaneously with the TSC Rex (and eventually re-released in 2019 as a Wal-Mart exclusive), this Rex, while almost identical to the TSC Rex visually, both lacks any electronic functions and is noticeably smaller in size at 11 inches in height, thus failing to fully scale with "film-accurate" releases of other characters from the series. Nonetheless, the wider release and lower price of this Rex render it the most frequently-seen and accessible version of the character within collections.
